"Mr President, the very first sentence of this document on the rights of victims of crime in the European Union says that the ‘mutual recognition of judicial decisions in civil and criminal matters’ is a cornerstone in the European Union. No Hungarian person would ever believe this to be true. Why? Because an Irish citizen by the name of Ciarán Tobin killed two small Hungarian children in Hungary in an act of extremely reckless driving. He received three years’ imprisonment. He is now in his home country of Ireland, which refuses both to extradite him to Hungary and to enforce the judgment, the sentence. Most Hungarian people are shocked and outraged by this. We asked the European Union, namely Commissioner Reding, for help. She did not help, so now I am asking for your help. Please do whatever you can to achieve justice for these two children."@en1
