"I voted in favour of this motion for a resolution which proposes concrete measures to address the challenges facing Europe and the world in order to preserve water resources, guarantee water quality and access to water for the whole planet.
I hope that the Forum in Marseille will, as our resolution calls for, be a step towards recognising water use as a right, which was not the case in Istanbul in 2009, where it was recognised only as a ‘fundamental human need’.
Dirty water kills over 3.6 million people every year. We must speed up the implementation of major technological solutions: desalinating seawater, building large weirs, partnerships between the public and private sectors. Today, techniques for harnessing and developing water sources have been well mastered and these must be quickly put in place in cooperation with the populations."@en1
