"Regrettably, rigid gender roles still hinder individual choices and therefore stunt women’s potential. In fact, even today, the majority of women do not see entrepreneurship as a viable career option. This is because in the 21st century, women are still crushed by the stereotype that they are just not meant to be successful business directors, even though they have proved that they are more than competent in the workplace and have a huge affinity for business.
Beyond this, payment inequality, barriers to employment, the shortage of child care facilities and other well-known obstacles stymie the ability of women to create a satisfying working future for themselves. In view of achieving the objectives set out in the Europe 2020 strategy, I hope that the Commission impels the Member States to inform women of the financing and training opportunities offered by the various EU programmes and to invest in their own future."@en1
