lpv:translated text	"− There is no doubt that population ageing is a burden on European public budgets, and especially on the pension systems of individual Member States. For this very reason we must endeavour to promote an effective active ageing policy that offers older people the opportunity to continue to work, stay healthy for longer and play an active role in society despite their advancing years. The proposal relating to the European Year for Active Ageing can doubtless make an important contribution, enabling older workers to play their part in the labour market, combating social exclusion and fostering active participation in society through a kind of ‘healthy’ ageing. For these reasons, I voted in favour of the text presented today in plenary."@en¹
