Firstly, this report would have approved the issuing of a Directive to the United Kingdom to pass laws implementing the approved new legislation. In particular the Directive has as a substantial purpose, the Europeanisation and harmonisation of Trade Mark law and thus would enable the EU to consolidate its power over this important aspect of intellectual property and remove yet more control over it from Member States.
