Triples with object I voted in favour of this report. I welcome in particular that this report has highlighted the very serious issue of antimicrobial resistance, which is on the increase and is having worrying impacts on patients’ health across Europe. It is estimated that 10 million people will die every year in the world by 2050 because of this phenomenon. It is essential that serious efforts be undertaken now to halt the epidemic. This report is a timely reminder for the need for a coordinated approach to fighting antimicrobial resistance, in line with the One Health approach recommended by the World Health Organisation. It is also to be welcomed that the report highlights the negative effects austerity has had on Member States’ healthcare systems.
