Triples with object I voted in favour of this recommendation which gives consent to the Council to ratify the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, FCTC Protocol. This proposal is in line with the EU’s comprehensive strategy to combat cigarette smuggling. At present, the illicit tobacco trade leads to huge revenue losses in the EU, and this framework will go some way towards addressing that.
