Triples with object I voted in favour of this motion to reject the new fuel-quality standards proposed this year by the European Commission. These watered-down proposals from the Commission have given into the heavy lobbying efforts of the Canadian government and will risk a significant increase of oil derived from tar sands into the European Union. Tar sands are highly polluting and it is very disappointing to see the European Commission bow to oil industry pressure instead of prioritising the climate.
