"I voted against this report. It outlines a range of suggestions to modernise and enhance the connectivity and accessibility of transport infrastructure from and within Central and Eastern parts of the EU. On the one hand, it reiterates the TEN-T objectives of bridging missing links, removing bottlenecks, and ensuring seamless connections for long-distance and regional transport, particularly in cross-border regions, for passengers and freight.
However, my GUE/NGL colleagues attempted to improve the report in committee by including pro-social and pro-environment elements but this was rejected and overall the report is highly focused on economic growth and competitiveness, heavy infrastructure and subordinating all transport modes ‘without exception’ to the needs of competitiveness and the single market. The report also repeatedly promotes the use of public-private partnerships in developing transport infrastructure, and its reference to TEN-T is limited to the core network (again a heavy focus on growth rather than social need). For these reasons I voted against."@en1
