"I voted in favour of this report, which was an approval of an application by Belgium to mobilise the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF). The report approved aid of €1.8 million for 488 redundant workers from Caterpillar Belgium SA. The EGF funds are used to provide re-training and personalised job search supports to workers made redundant as a result of globalisation and major changes in global trade patterns. In recent years changes to the rules of the EGF has meant that workers made redundant as a result of the financial crisis can also be covered by the EGF programmes. Caterpillar Group in the EU was largely dependent on public/private partnerships. Since these have been considerably reduced since the financial crash, large scale liquidations ensued. Naturally I support the proposal to provide assistance to workers made redundant as a result of the crisis to find new employment."@en1
