"I supported this report which contains many positive proposals e.g. safe and legal routes to the EU for those fleeing conflicts with gender taken into consideration, and that more Member States should participate in the EU Resettlement Programmes. It also reminds us that LGBTI people may be subjected to further abuse, that family re-unification is systematically delayed and often violated and that women asylum seekers in detention have been subjected to sexual abuse. However, it then goes too far where e.g. in paragraph 61 it states that employment and housing that matches the needs and abilities of refugee women and girls should be guaranteed by host countries. Yes, that is what we would want for everybody, our children as well as refugees, but no Member State can guarantee it. The word food appears in one paragraph out of 62 and over 200 recitals and only in the context of food distribution – totally ignoring the fact that in some instances there is no food. Yes, we wish for and vote for the good things – as I did, but I am left with a slightly sour taste in my mouth that we ignored certain realties in an effort to deliver a political message."@en1
