"I do not support this third attempt at an overarching European regulation of ports. There was a reason the last two attempts failed, a one-size-fits-all approach to the hugely diverse range of ports in Europe does not work. In the UK, our ports operate in a different way to many ports in continental Europe. They are thriving and successful private enterprises competing directly with each other in a competitive market place. Competition between ports, rather than a prescriptive regulation of ports’ internal operations, is the best driver of efficiency."@en1
