"I voted in favour of this report on the activities of the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly. The work of the Ombudsman has been instrumental in holding EU processes and officials to account in many ways. Of note are recent own-initiative investigations which sought to expose the lack of transparency within TTIP and investigations into ‘revolving doors’ between lobbyists and EU officials. The report also notes how as a result of this office’s inquiries that the European Central Bank has disclosed a letter to the Irish Government on the financial crisis, and that the Commission has followed the Ombudsman’s recommendation to release documents on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy. For these reasons I voted in favour of the report."@en1
