"I was happy to vote in favour of this report. Gas appliances are a big part of our lives and the economy, from simple portable cookers to the industrial boilers needed for big buildings. The current European stock stands at 470 million and growing, that is almost one for every single citizen in the EU. This stock is also growing, with more than 30 million units being sold annually. The sheer size of the area means that safety measures are vital for the health and happiness to our citizens. This report helps to maintain a high level of protection for persons, domestic appliances and properties. This can be achieved by harmonising safety requirements across the EU and creating more transparent rules for gas appliance manufacturers. It is vital that we continue to do so in the coming years."@en1
