"I support this report as it outlines a balanced EU approach to the important issue of intellectual property rights (IPR) in third countries. IPR is central to European businesses’ ability and willingness to innovate, and it is important to note the complex balance is required between right holders’ and end users’ interests, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals where the capacity for innovation must be balanced with costs in third countries. Further, I support the calls in the report for further IPR support not only for EU economic operators in third countries via attachés and helpdesks, but also for technical assistance for countries seeking to improve IPR enforcement, as this can only lead to economic benefits for those countries."@en1
