Ba mhaith liom díriú ar réigiún na teorann, lár na tíre agus an Iarthair in Éirinn. This region has been greatly affected by rising unemployment levels as a result of the economic recession. Despite this, the Border, Midlands and Western (BMW) region was reclassified as a more developed region, due to the outdated GDP per capita levels which were used. The situation was partially reversed when this region was allocated a special provision of EUR 100 million. Of course, I raised this issue on several occasions in the Committee on Regional Development. Unfortunately, this region is still expected to receive a reduction in funding over the next seven years. Therefore, it is imperative that the government, in addition to funding the BMW region, also commits to co-financing rural development, such as Leader, youth unemployment and improving the quality of high-speed broadband throughout rural Ireland, to mention but a few."@en1
