"Though the youth guarantee as presented is woefully inadequate, citing different ‘levels of readiness’ as a barrier to a more uniform approach, an imperfect approach is better than no approach at all, as a guarantee gives a platform upon which more concrete measures can be built. The current scenario is already having a disastrous impact on the lives of thousands of young people right across Europe; the acknowledgement of the potential future costs of long-term unemployment on young people is very important, as is a move away from simply talking about labour mobility, or emigration to give it another name, as a means of removing the problem from sight. Despite the guarantee’s shortcomings, it is a step in the right direction and so I am voting in favour."@en1
