"I voted in favour of the Busuttil report because I agree that the Frontex Agency should be given a new mandate and equipped with more resources and instruments in order to make it more effective. Frontex plays a fundamental role in the coordination of our external borders. In the light of the recent, ever changing and constantly evolving migratory flows, conditions are emerging that are crucial to the smooth operation of the agency, namely integrated management that guarantees a high, uniform level of control and surveillance, but also common rules and greater cooperation among Member States. I agree with the point emphasised by the rapporteur, namely that Frontex should be ready to assist Member States in specific circumstances, with a special focus on those States that face specific or disproportionate pressures on their respective national asylum systems. Close cooperation with other European agencies such as Europol and Eurojust in the fight against cross-border crime is therefore key to ensuring this."@en1
