I can confirm that the issue of the IMEI database, the International Mobile Equipment Identity numbers database, has been raised in the discussions on the Crime Prevention Network. I can confirm that some Member States are in favour of creating such a database, but others are reluctant and doubt the usefulness of such a database. That is why I told you that the discussion is still going on in the Crime Prevention Network. The only reference I made was about the possibility of approximation of criminal law, and there I think we have no specific legal basis in the Treaty. I do not anticipate that Article 34 could be used for that purpose."@en1
