The Commissioner said that no funding from the EU had been requested for this at the moment. Would there be EU funding specifically available to help with foot-and-mouth? Will he also help the British Government to determine where the foot-and-mouth originally came from, because he said that we do not import from countries that do not have a clean record. I thought it was perhaps just regions of particular countries. Could he be a little more specific on that? Would he agree with me that the closure of the smaller abattoirs in the UK has perhaps led to the spread of the disease?"@en1
