"Madam President, within the last 24 hours, the most shocking action that I have ever seen in this Parliament has happened. This is quite blatantly an attempt to block other countries from following the route that the United Kingdom took with Brexit, and it is an attack on free speech and views expressed there. Now you can try to shut down what you believe to be the eurosceptic oxygen that this Parliament has, in terms of the ENF Group, the EFDD Group, and people like myself who stand as
and want to make the points that we continually do.
Bear in mind where the frustration and the irritation comes from within voters. There are two points: one is that this institution, and the Council and the Commission, have shown themselves to be completely incapable of considering a change of direction or of invoking any change. That frustration and irritation leads to a eurosceptic voice that seeks representation in this Parliament. This Parliament has no right to start redrawing a map in terms of funding and resourcing just because it wants to shut down euroscepticism across the European continent. Now whether we like it or not, Brexit has happened and it could well be that the Netherlands follow suit, or that France takes a position on withdrawal from the euro, for instance. To try to block individuals – citizens – who have got every right for representation in this Parliament, is just absolutely unacceptable."@en1
