"Despite the recent UN Resolution condemning Israel’s expansion policy, the government has announced a new plan for housing units in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Residential settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territories are both in breach of international law and an obstacle to the peace process. How can the continuous demolition of Palestinian households and a disposition such as the Regularisation Law help the two—state solution? Is this Israel’s recipe to reach stability? These provocative acts will only drag the region into more violence and extremism. With Donald Trump now in the White House, I fear that Israel’s prime minister will seize his chance to open a forceful new phase of Israeli expansion into the Palestinian land. We need the EU to use its leverage as Israel’s first economic partner. If we do not act now, the prospect of a two—state solution – just like Palestinian land – will vanish before our eyes."@en1
