"Madam President, I am an independent MEP, and I am not affiliated to any political group. I supported the ENF proposed amendment today and I want to explain why. The ENF proposal and their amendment highlighted the detrimental effect of the single currency and the harmful EU policies which resulted in increasing unemployment and poverty across the continent. It also highlighted that employment and social policy initiatives should be Member State competences, which actually is a very important perspective; equally, that only national governments can truly effect the financing of changes in these areas to deliver results; and the amendment also stressed the need for Member States to take responsibility to achieve economic and social recovery. Finally, the amendment criticised the EU’s blame-game policy, casting blame rather than acknowledging that fault actually lies with the EU itself. Now I may not support the ENF politically, but today they submitted an objective and valid amendment which I was happy to support."@en1
