"The EU TEN-T programme is intended to improve transport connectivity in EU. The ‘small print’, however, highlights that the focus is on between Germany and central Europe. There are nine projects but only one involving the UK: this is through the Midlands to the coast. HS2 is a highly contentious project, economically unjustified and with the reasons for its existence constantly changing to facilitate its construction. In all likelihood there will be a massive coast overrun. The combination of the Brexit vote and the decision on Heathrow expansion meant I could not vote to support the TEN-T programme proposals. The UK, no longer as a EU Member State, will be in a better situation to select and fund its national transport infrastructure requirements."@en1
