"Thank you Mr Wałęsa. When I was a journalist, before I became an MEP, I was working for a paper called the Daily Express in the United Kingdom. We raised a petition of 363 000 readers demanding David Cameron grant an in-out referendum on the EU, and we were a key part of ensuring that that referendum took place; that glorious act of democracy took place in June. Does that not show that if your cause is just and commands popular support, nothing can really hold back the power of a popular petition?"@en1
