"Mr President, as someone rather unusually decorated by both Ukraine and Georgia for my services to those countries and their Euro-Atlantic aspirations, I of course warmly welcome the agreement for visa liberalisation to allow their citizens, for tourism and business purposes, to visit the European Union Schengen zone. Both countries have waited for years and have made sacrifices by unilaterally lifting visa restrictions and fees on EU visitors with no reciprocity until now. Of course there must be safeguards, including suspension mechanisms if the numbers are excessive or overstay abuses are evident. Both European neighbouring countries deserve our warmest welcome, and in Ukraine we must remember that many of their citizens have died for the freedoms that we take for granted here in the European Union."@en1
