"Madam President, I voted against this report. I am from the Republic of Ireland, as the last speaker is. The reason I voted against it is because Ireland is a neutral country. There is another reason why I voted against it, and that is because many EU Member States are hypocrites when it comes to talking about peace.
All you need to do is a quick search on the internet to see the masses of weapons that are sold by countries from within this Union. Reuters reported in January that the German Government has approved several arms export deals with countries in the Middle East, including delivery of 23 Airbus helicopters to Saudi Arabia, 660 machine guns, 600 additional gun barrels and 550 submachine guns. Now can someone tell me what is Saudi Arabia going to do with that? Are they going to cuddle people; are going to make life better for people? No, they are going to terrorise people; they are going to cause mayhem; and they are going to make my life less safe. If Europe was serious about doing something about war, they would stop selling the tools of mayhem and stop being bloody hypocrites."@en1
