"I voted against this report on the conclusion of an international agreement for the exchange of technical or classified information with Georgia.
Sinn Féin rejects cooperation agreements of Europol with certain third countries with poor human rights records. In all matters of judicial and law enforcement cooperation, we have always advocated that such cooperation can only happen when there are high human rights standards in place (fair trial rights, defence rights, judicial oversight, etc.), and this is not the case with Georgia.
In addition, the European Parliament has recently voted on a new Europol Regulation which should ensure that such agreements are concluded in a much more transparent way. The fact that the Council has chosen to rush this agreement through under the old regime raises questions.
For these reasons, I voted against."@en1
