"Mr President, I welcome this report in light of the specific and crucial regulation and that it clarifies in the sphere of fishing international waters. From an Irish perspective, I can appreciate that the advancement of the economic viability of the fishing sector has a profound effect on the livelihoods of fishing communities across the EU. Moreover, it is increasingly important that we identify species and ecosystems that are vulnerable to over-exploitation, thus establishing and clarifying a sustainable level of fishing for all Member States.
Regular assessment, reinforcement of current and future sanctions, and promotion of greater transparency do prove vital to safeguarding of deep-sea stocks and regulation of fishing activities in the EU. I also urge colleagues, like my colleague Mr Flanagan, to look at the film
a wonderful production, but I would not draw the same conclusions. I do not think that we should be leaving the European Union, but I will let Members look at it and then come to their own conclusions because there are very important messages in it."@en1
