"Mr President, I am speaking tonight in support of this report. I very much want to thank our rapporteur, Knut Fleckenstein, for the amazing work he has done on the report; it really has not been easy. The reason that we have had a good result is because we had a very detailed debate on this back in March, at first reading, and I do think that there is a balanced result.
I know that UK ports still have some concerns, but, with proper implementation and good interpretation, the rules on transparency can work to the benefit of everyone. Also, I particularly welcome the specific reinforcement in the text of training rights for workers, and also the social dialogue: the importance of dialogue between trade unions and workers at European level and other levels.
Finally, to the Commission: please, as other speakers have also said, take this regulation and do not seek to come back in a couple of years time to mandate more market access. This is not what we need in this sector; it is vital for our economy across Europe and it is vital for the many, many thousands of workers who work in this sector."@en1
