"I joined many colleagues in my Socialist and Democratic Group, including the shadow rapporteur, in voting against the EU-Ghana EPA. The agreement falls short on sustainable development and labour rights criteria, and risks to interfere with regional integration under ECOWAS. We object to the Commission’s conduct in rushing the agreement through, while we express support to our progressive colleagues in Ghana.
As an advocate of the Alternative Trade Mandate (ATM) I support trade that puts people and planet ahead of profit. This is a complex and multifaceted issue, but upon listening and weighing both sides of the argument, I have concluded that a vote against would reflect these ATM principles."@en1
