"There have been two major developments in Belarus. First, there has been the resumption of death sentences carried out after a two-year pause. The EU considers the death penalty a major sticking point in diplomatic and economic relations. It had recently unfrozen the assets of 150 major figures in Belarus following this pause and the release of some political prisoners. The second concerns the planned development of a nuclear plant near the border with Lithuania. There have been questions raised over the planning processes’ compliance with international safety standards and other requirements of the Belarusian Government through its membership of the International Atomic Energy Agency."@en1
