"I voted in favour of the VAT report as it will help tackle the EUR 170 billion lost through the so-called ‘VAT gap’ each year. The report also provides for a review of the goods and services eligible for reduced rates, allowing the UK Government to bring an end to the sanitary tax and other unfair taxes. The report also reinforces help for small and micro-businesses in the UK by calling for a reintroduction of a VAT threshold. Fair taxation is a cornerstone of a progressive society as tax income is required to help fund state spending, ensuring that disadvantaged and vulnerable people can receive a basic level of support and that universal services such as the NHS remain FREE at the point of delivery."@en1
