"Mr President, this report is all about an EU communication to counteract anti-EU propaganda. I do not think that taxpayers’ money should be spent on this because it is very dangerous when the state starts getting involved in telling us what is, and what is not, acceptable to be said.
Perhaps, being fair and reasonable people, the EU would be amenable to a compromise – to spending half of the money countering pro—EU propaganda, the same politicians who told us that leaving the EU would lead to World War III or the end of western political civilisation as we know it. Perhaps we could have a bit of help countering some of that propaganda.
The UK Government spent EUR 10 million sending a booklet to every household with pro-EU propaganda telling people to vote for the EU, but actually what you often find is that propaganda backfires. I am sure it would be only too fair to counteract pro—EU propaganda and nonsense as well, but what are the chances of the EU voting for that? Zero."@en1
