"UKIP voted against this non-legislative and non-binding report. We are opposed to the development of a centralised EU defence and foreign policy capability. As such we reject the annual review process of CSDP and CFSP and the calls for increased EU capability contained within this report.
We remain fully committed to NATO as the primary guarantor of security in Europe. We are supportive of the NATO 2% defence spending minimum. It is UKIP party policy to ensure the UK remains at least above 2% and we would also encourage fellow NATO allies to meet this commitment.
We are however uneasy at language contained within this report in which the EU calls on Member States to meet this requirement. There is a fine line between this and the 2% commitment to NATO being replaced with one to the EU. This risks further undermining NATO and risks the position of traditionally neutral countries."@en1
