"Mr President, we in UKIP believe in the importance of improving air quality. Elevated levels of – and long-term exposure to – air pollution can lead to severe conditions affecting human health. The respiratory and inflammatory systems are very often affected, and serious illnesses such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cancer are related. Air pollution also causes harm to flora and fauna. However, UKIP is against further EU legislation, and in this instance we are concerned about the increased administrative burden for industry and governments. Member States should be free to adopt specific measures at national level. With Brexit, we will finally be free to reject EU environmental and climate policies that have been detrimental to our economies. We will be able to autonomously determine our own policy whilst mobilising our own resources in this area. Free from the EU Commission, the UK will provide a reliable and consistent regulatory environment in order to facilitate investment in all affordable energy technologies at the same time as putting the health and interests of our citizens first."@en1
