"I voted against this report. This is a non-legislative report, which looks at increasing the effectiveness of development cooperation. Calls on the EU Commission to increase transparency and accountability of all actors involved in spending and receiving aid funds. However, it urges the EU and its Member States ‘to meet the longstanding commitment to devote 0.7% of GNI (Gross National Income) to aid and to step up their development assistance.’ The EU does not have the right to tell any nation state on where and how they can spend their money. In addition to this, the report is asking for more resources to put in place a permanent secretariat for the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC)."@en1
