"Madam President, no doubt about it, the economic crisis has had a terrible effect, especially on young people, leaving many of them unemployed and, as a result, disillusioned and maybe passive. But at the same time, the optimism of youth will always win out. This was very clear, especially in the referendum in the United Kingdom on Brexit. The majority of young people voted to stay in the European Union. It was the older generations who are now hell-bent on taking them out of the European Union, doing their youth a terrible disservice. Hopefully those young people, when they come to adulthood and take over positions themselves, will be in a position to reverse this terrible mistake. Therefore, we should do everything we can to help the youth, not just of Britain but right across the European Union, especially in getting jobs and digital skills which will be most needed into the future. It is the youth who will create the digital single market in Europe."@en1
