"UKIP voted against this decision to grant discharge and close the accounts for ARTEMIS. Discharge is a procedure whereby the EU Parliament looks at the internal budgets of each EU agency and institution and gives an opinion on its implementation. ARTEMIS is a public—private partnership between the Commission, Member States, industry and research institutes. It was set up in December 2007 for a 10—year period to establish and implement a research agenda for the development of technologies for embedded computing systems across different application areas. The final budget for the financial year 2014 included commitment appropriations of EUR 2 554 510 and payment appropriations of EUR 30 330 178. This vote was a decision regarding discharge (non-binding opinion) and a decision on closing the accounts for the relevant body. While of course UKIP supports international cooperation on issues such as this on a bilateral basis, UKIP’s general position on discharge votes is to refuse the granting of discharge, in order to register our opposition to EU bodies and the EU spending British taxpayer’s money."@en1
