"I voted in favour of the report, the new Plant Health regulation sets up a robust and cohesive framework drawn up with a view on preventing contamination and outbreaks of plant diseases as well as sets out measures to deal effectively with the consequences of the spread of plant pests. In a globalised world in which climate change adds up an additional layer of uncertainty, it is necessary that all countries trading on the EU single market adopt a cohesive and comprehensive legal framework to protect their own farmers, horticulturalists, foresters and other operators from the spread of non-native plant diseases. This has direct importance to the UK and European food security, biosafety and economic viability of farming, horticulture and forestry."@en1
