"Mr President, Mr Moscovici is coming out again with the same old idea that was criticised in the past: to install a common consolidated corporate tax base. The Commission says this base is necessary to create a fairer taxation system with more transparency, but what it really means is the first step to supranational fiscal union. Secondly, the Commission wants a common EU list of so—called non—cooperative tax jurisdictions. This is a system for blackmailing more competitive countries and making them fall into line. If you reduce tax competition between states there is no incentive to keep the public services efficient and the government will continue to plunder taxpayers’ hard—earned money. The good news for the UK taxpayer is that with a hard Brexit, out of the single market and fiscal union, the UK can reduce corporate tax to 10%, making us massively more competitive than the sclerotic overtaxed EU. Our Irish brethren are already doing this and may join us in our exit. I hope that Ms Harkin will perhaps see the logic of my argument."@en1
