lpv:spoken text	"The situation of fundamental rights and democracy is under threat across Europe, with far-right populist movements gaining ground, including in the UK, and so the EU must mobilise to counter potential violations. I welcome Parliament’s call for the establishment of a European mechanism for fundamental rights and democracy, in order to ensure that these are upheld across the Union. Just as the European Semester aims to uphold common standards of economic policy, this mechanism must involve European institutions, national governments, and parliaments working to ensure that civil rights in the EU are upheld."@en1
