It is therefore very important that existing mechanisms are used effectively to promote better dialogue with Member States and the EU. This will contribute to a more streamlined approach to upholding fundamental rights and the rule of law. Furthermore, we support the role of the European Parliament in maintaining and continuing the debate on the rule of law and fundamental rights across the EU. As we believe that the focus should be on the improvement of existing mechanisms, I abstained from this vote."@en1
