"Mr President, my friend and colleague, Mrs Morvai, made an interesting point when she said that we had too many European regulations. In some respects she reflects what Commission President Mr Juncker has said, because he said that henceforth we will only regulate from Europe where absolutely necessary.
But, at the same time, there is no point in having European Union law if it is not applied. Obviously there have been cases where that has not happened and indeed there have been widespread examples of fraud. That is certainly something that has to be combated. I am very pleased that in the recent analysis my own country came out very well in regard to the application of European law. That is something that should apply everywhere. I think it is absolutely vital that we continue to monitor the application of European law and only regulate when necessary. But, when we do so, it has to be applied fairly and evenly across all Member States with no exceptions."@en1
