"I supported the resolution on attaining global goals and EU commitments on nutrition and food security in the world. The resolution calls for accelerated action to fulfil the 2030 Agenda and to reach Sustainable Development Goals 2 to end hunger, while it also insists on the development of social safety nets in order to reduce extreme poverty. As the level of investment in nutrition remains inadequate (with nutrition-specific interventions receiving only 0.57% of global ODA aid in 2014, meeting only 1.4% of the total needs) the resolution calls for additional EU commitment of EUR 1 billion addressing nutrition-specific interventions. I believe that there is an absolute urgency to reach internationally agreed nutrition targets. Inadequate nutrition is one of the most significant impediments to human development. I was also happy to support an amendment, which called for the right of local food producers to have control over their land, seeds and water and also reject the privatisation of natural resources."@en1
