"Under normal circumstances, I would vote against or abstain on resolutions involving the European Union’s participation in international bodies and organisations because I believe that it’s not for the European Union to make such decisions.
In this situation, however, the question is whether South Korea should be allowed to accede to the Hague Convention. It should be a vote of the British Parliament, but it is not, because such sovereignty has been ceded. If the European Parliament were to vote against accession, it would penalise children at risk of abduction in that country.
Therefore I voted in favour of accession, despite my constitutional concerns."@en1
