"Over 600 unaccompanied children who are trapped in the Calais jungle will be made homeless by Christmas. These children face human traffickers, police violence, sexual abuse and even death trying to reach the UK in a desperate hope for a safe and better future. It is now more urgent than ever for the UK government to get these children to safety. But the situation at the camp is driven by a lack of intervention on both sides of the Channel. Since there is no legal recognition of the camp, there is no formal registration of children. Since there is no official agency operating at the camp, no one knows what actually happens to these children. According to NGOs, nearly half of them have the right to come to the UK. Yet the UK Government fails to act. Only around 50 children were brought to the UK under the EU’s Dublin regulation and NOT ONE child has been relocated under the Dubs amendment. I implore the UK Government to uphold the rule of law and bring these children to safety before the upcoming demolition of the Camp. Britain must step up and show leadership in the face of this humanitarian crisis."@en1
