"The EU is a global leader of the sustainable development agenda, and the relationship between the EU and the ACP countries is a cornerstone of that agenda.
That relationship must be based on promoting fair and equitable trade, as advocated in the Alternative Trade Mandate. Relations with ACP countries must put people and planet first, setting out a common agenda on human rights, democracy and the rule of law, as well as empowerment of women and young people.
I would especially like to emphasise the importance of youth participation and empowerment, particularly of women and girls. The existing agreement stipulates cooperation to help children and young people fulfil their potential, and I would like to see those commitments strengthened post-2020."@en1
