"I voted in favour of this report, which was a revision of the 2005 anti-torture Regulation, to ensure that no new technologies were allowed to slip through gaps in legislation.
The ‘Anti-torture Regulation’ contributes to the EU policy of eliminating the death penalty worldwide, and of preventing torture. It helps achieve these goals by combining prohibitions with licensing requirements for trade in listed goods. It governs a ban of trade in ‘single-use’ torture and execution items and related technical assistance (Annex II) and an authorisation system for ‘multi-purpose’ items that could be misused for torture and executions by lethal injections (Annex III).
This revision will ensure that online and offline marketing and transit of prohibited goods are also caught by legislation. Clearance at EU borders will also now be necessary for certain goods such as specific chemicals."@en1
