"Labour MEPs voted in favour of the report, which will assist in increasing Member State’s confidence in each other’s legal systems and ensure that in countries where virtually no legal aid exists, new and improved systems can be established. Once fully implemented by Member States, the Legal Aid Directive should give an important boost to social advocacy by strengthening the right to access a lawyer for those who do not have sufficient financial means and will hopefully benefit women who often face barriers to accessing legal aid. In addition, this will ensure quick and effective legal representation from the start of proceedings. The UK has opted out of the proposal and will not be affected by this legislation."@en1
